CROWNS  A crown is a “cap” or cover which encases a tooth to create a smoother look and to enhance strength and durability. When a tooth is cracked, has an old filling, or is severely damaged, the placement of a crown is often recommended. Crowns strengthen and protect the remaining tooth structure and can improve the appearance of your smile. Crowns can be made of a variety of materials including porcelain, porcelain-fused-to-metal and gold.The dental crown procedure Before placing a crown on a tooth, the tooth must be carefully prepared. Once this is complete, an impression of the tooth and the surrounding area is taken. Many times a temporary acrylic crown is placed on the prepared tooth for the few short days it takes our dental lab to create the finished product. When the permanent crown is ready, the temporary crown is removed and your custom made permanent crown is cemented in place. Our in house dental laboratory custom makes each crown to create perfect contours, shapes and esthetics. Every patient receives a unique color match from a certified lab technician to ensure that the crown blends perfectly with your natural surrounding teeth. BRIDGES  Dental bridges are used to replace a missing tooth or teeth. Missing teeth can be problematic for both esthetic and functional reasons. Having a bridge completed to replace the missing tooth or teeth will alleviate both of these problems.The dental bridge procedure is identical to that for crowns. Two appointments are required, one to prepare the teeth on either side of the missing tooth or teeth and a second appointment a few short days later to cement the bridge in place. As with crowns, our dental lab will do a custom color match for all bridge preparations to ensure that the final result blends seamlessly with your natural teeth.
